Just look at the statistics: in 2006, the main cause of house fires in the UK was misuse of equipment and appliances, with 16,200 fires having been started in this way. As such, the primary source of ignition was cooking appliances, which accounted for 56 per cent. If you are contemplating a major remodel, the addition of a room or garage, or a new kitchen you should consider upgrading your electrical service. Thirty years ago, the average new home was equipped with a 60 amp electrical service connected to a screw-in fuse panel with two fuse blocks. The common distribution was a fuse block for the stove and one for the hot water tank. The balance of the homes electrical needs were served by six, 15amp screw-in fuses. |

If you have old dimmers with the turn knob on them, is it a good idea to replace them? Yes, it is a great idea. Actually, using dimmers are supposed to save energy. And it does not. On old dimmers, they increase the amperage and increase the resistance. That in turn will increase heat which makes more amperage on the circuit. So actually, resistance did not do anything but dim your lights a long time ago. But that was all it was supposed to do, dim you lights. Now, the new dimmers do more than that. They dim your lights, and they save you energy at the same time. |
